Grade 5 Exhibition - Taking Care of our World Heritage
Inauguration 25th of April

This year’s Exhibition inauguration was a grand one. It was like a real Olympic Games opening ceremony. Naturally it was inspired by the group who studied ancient Greece.

The groups gathered on the PYP school yard. After the sign and torch carriers were selected they walked to the MYP school yard, left the torches and took their seats by the scene.

The Principal and the PYP Vice Principal held a welcome speech, the students had their speeches, there were music and dance performances, a yoga greeting to the sun was performed.

After all these activities in the entrance hall, all the guests were invited to the school library to see the exhibited student works. Many parents and students could be seen zigzaging on the quiz walk between the screens.

Power Point presentations were run on the computers and a film about classes working with the Exhibition was shown on the big screen in the computer lab. Outside the library a delicious fruit drink was served. Lotteries, tickets were purchased and the prize winners were announced before the end of the evening.

An unforgettable evening! Many thanks to all who contributed with so much time and energy to the success!

ISN grade 4 to regional semi final in Chess 4!

On the 17th of March, ISN students from grade 4 Swedish and English participated in the biggest Chess competition of the world,
Schack 4:an. The regional Stockholm’s Chess organisation has since 1992 organized the competition for students in grade 4.  The game was played in Globen, Stockholm.

It is the collected results from the whole class that counts. The way of recording the results is unique – you get 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point when you lose which means that even the students with less knowledge are important.

The motto for Chess 4 is to give mental training for everyone in the class, to strengthen the unity in the class and encourage everyone to play.

In our group there were six classes. Our team came to the second place and this means that we are playing the regional semi final in Blå Hallen the 1st of April. The winning team of this game will go further to the national finals in Västerås.

International cooperation in a PYP class
3 grade English is presently working on the Newspapers unit under the organizing theme of how we express ourselves. Central idea is that news is forum for information and opinions. We are exploring different kinds of newspapers and magazines and articles as a means of expressing opinions and recording events.

As a part of that theme we have managed to establish cooperation with two more IBO schools – Spicewood Elementary school situated in Texas, USA and  Gimnasio del Norte school in Columbia. Their 3-4 grade students are writing to our class and we are informing them about the news from our everyday life in Sweden. Students are very exciting about having new pen pals living so far away !

We looked at their websites and talked about their countries. We have already learned that in Columbia, they  don't actually have seasons, but they  have sometimes different weather conditions in a day.  I mean you see a sunny day, but suddenly it starts raining... sometimes it's crazy because you take out the umbrella, but it turns to be a great hot day.  Funny, isn't it?  They promised to teach us some Spanish too.

There are so many other great things to be discovered while exchanging our news and enjoying to the fullest the fact of getting to know people who live in the other parts of the world. Web sites: Spicewood Elementary
