Communication Project

ISN and Save the Children local office  in Fisksätra - Saltsjöbaden have initiated the project which aims to increase communication between school and parents and guardians to children in Fisksätra suburb. The project is financed by the state, Arsvfonden (Allmänna Arvsfonden) and supported by Nacka commune and partly by Save the Children Sweden.

The communication project has started in September 2004 and works mainly on following fields; Study support, Study circles for parents and Culture competence.

Study support for students in Swedish, Math and English
There are many students who have chosen Study support in Core subjects Math, English and Swedish. About 15 volunteers from Fisksätra and international IB program at Samskolan will work as their  coaches. We also have one retired teacher and a guardian as volunteer. Study workshops are open on Monday at Lännbo school and Tuesday - Friday afternoon at ISN.
If you are a student with interest to study support you can still sign up to your mentor!

Study circles for parents and guardians
are based on a book by Sonia Sherefay -Children in our hearts (Barnen i våra hjärtan). The aim is to strenghten the parent's role in the multicultural Sweden. Circles start in different languages as requested.  At the moment there are groups in Arabic, English, Spanish and Swedish.

Early language development - a lecture by Veli Tuomela
An audience of 50 persons who work with the early language development with preschool and fritids children in Fisksätra attended a highly appreciated lecture given by Doctor of Philosophy Veli Tuomela on the 13th March in Fisksätra library.

The
focus was in following questions:

- How can preschool develop a child's language skills?
- What is the reason that the methods, practical hints and materials are insufficient.
- What do you need to take into consideration with children with a different mother tongue than Swedish?
-Why are all the staff members at preschool language developers?

Early language learning is invaluable and every moment should be taken into consideration.

Nacka Språk och Utbildningscentrum is the centre for Nacka’s mother tongue teachers
Vice principal Graham Brodie and trade-union representative Irena Kolundzic may present 23 of those who work with mother tongue teaching in Fisksätra.

This occupational group can be used as a working model to better cooperation between pupil, parents/guardians, school and society.

Unambiguous research shows that early language training in a person’s mother tongue supports in the long run every other type of learning

  Culture Competence 2005-2006
We have organized lectures even for teachers. The staff at ISN had an opportunity to listen to Nabila Alfakir's introduction to theme “Create dialogue between parents - practical integration” in the beginning os September.

Elektras bröder (The brothers of Elektra) - a play in Swedish in cooperation with Fryshuset, Upsala Stadsteater and Riksteatern was performed in Fisksätra Sports Hall, in 14th of September. The target group for this performance was parents/guardians but there were also pedagogs and culture people in the audience.

What is honour, human rights, freedom and equality?
These questions go through the play and inspire  the discussions after.

The play was performed one week later  to Nacka students in year 9 and Upper Secondary School in Dieselverkstaden during the autumn. A Workshop round the play was organized by Nacka Cultural Centre (Kultur Nacka).

Volley ball in Fisksätra Sports hall
During the spring term 2006 ISN students yr 6-9 have had the opportunity to play volley ball in Fisksätra Sports hall free of charge.

The leaders André Forssen and Rozerin Güzel were volunteers within the Communication Project and coached the players on Tuesdays.
