Applying to compulsory school

Enrolment criteria to the English section
The Swedish government has decreed that students seeking and approved for enrolment in English tuition classes within municipal compulsory schools must fulfill the conditions of the Compulsory School Order chpt 2 §8:

A municipality can provide the majority of an education in English for children temporarily resident (decided departure) in Sweden and who have sufficient knowledge of English to be able to follow the lessons. Exception from the number of taught hours for subjects is allowed in English and Swedish. The number of hours for Swedish can never be less than 480 hours.

If sufficient places for all applicants cannot be provided then children to visiting foreign researchers, experts and former students of an English medium school shall receive preference.

Enrolments to the English section are subject to a decision made by the Principal guided by the above mentioned order extract.

Applicants external to Nacka kommun
ISN accepts applicants from other muncipalities if the municipality of residence agrees to pay inter-municipal compensation. According to the Compulsory School Order parents have a freedom of choice regarding compulsory schooling and should not be refused inter municipal compensation. Applicants from other municipalities must request from ISN, complete and submit an Application for Inter- Municipal Compensation. Enrolment is only allowed if compensation to Nacka kommun is granted. Students with special needs must have the additional costs incurrred covered by the home municipality in order to gain admission to ISN.

For students with parents/guardians with diplomatic status a further rule applies. The rule is that before admission ISN must have an assurance of whom will be payee of the school place and to whom the invoice be addressed.

Children moving to Sweden from abroad must meet the school health service representative at ISN and be deemed healthy before being enrolled. Exceptions are children moving to Sweden from within western Europe, north America, Australia and New Zealand.
